Orloff of Denmark

THREE DECADES OF JEWELRY EXPERIENCE.

Orloff of Denmark was founded as Scandinavian Jewelry in 1995 by Niels Orloff Ehrenskjöld, a GIA-certified gemologist and jeweler who had spent years learning the trade the way it should be learned: in the field.

Those years gave Niels Orloff an instinct for what makes a stone genuinely fine. That instinct has never left the business. It passed to his son, Viktor Ehrenskjöld, who heads the company today.

ABOUT ORLOFF OF DENMARK
Founded in 1995 by Niels Orloff Ehrenskjöld, Orloff of Denmark has established itself as a beacon of excellent craftsmanship in the jewelry world. Niels Orloff, a graduate of the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) and certified as a gemologist and jeweler, embarked on his new venture with great enthusiasm and a commitment to the highest quality, showcasing the beauty and uniqueness of colorful, rare gemstones.

Niels Orloff’s journey began long before he set up an office in Denmark. His first venture took him to Phuket, Thailand, where he started his first design studio. This scenic location served as a springboard for his exploration of mines around the world, enabling him to develop valuable business relationships. As he explored in Tanzania and Kenya, he was captivated by the beauty of tanzanite and tsavorite stones. These experiences heavily influenced Orloff’s aesthetic and philosophy, showcasing the vibrant colors and pristine qualities of gemstones directly from the earth.

Today, Orloff of Denmark is not only the legacy of Niels Orloff but also the shared vision with his son, Viktor Ehrenskjöld. Viktor, an accredited gemologist from the Asian Institute of Gemological Sciences (AIGS), brings a fresh perspective and deep understanding of gemstones to the business. Together, they blend tradition with innovation, elevating the company to new heights. Viktor's expertise and modern strategies ensure the brand remains relevant and appealing in a competitive market. This father-son duo creates a harmonious blend of experience and innovation, supporting the brand's commitment to creating beautifully designed, handmade jewelry that reflects the natural beauty of gemstones.

Under the joint leadership of Niels and Viktor Ehrenskjöld, Orloff of Denmark continues to champion the excellence of artisanal jewelry making, combining traditional craftsmanship with cutting-edge gemological insights. Their dedication to quality, rare gemstones, and unique designs marks Orloff of Denmark as a distinguished name in the jewelry world, committed to excellence and innovation.

Our love for colored gemstones is difficult to put into words. You do not learn to evaluate a rough stone by reading about it. You learn by handling thousands of them, in places like this, with the same people who pulled them out of the earth. Niels Orloff made trips like this one for years before Orloff of Denmark had its name. The standard he set on those journeys is the one we still buy by.

Though his smithing days are over, the standard Niels Orloff set at that bench is still the one every piece is measured against. He understands that this is where it all starts. Not in a showroom or behind a counter, but at a bench, under a loupe, with the work in your hands.

Terrifically Scandinavian, our mix of dark navy and bright beechwood has never failed us and continues to serve us today. Our family crest in gold on navy has been there from the start, and the box has always been treated with the same attention as the piece inside it.

Though he did not fully understand yet, Viktor loved sneaking into Niels Orloff's office, rummaging through trays of loose gemstones and unfamiliar equipment. The loupes, tweezers, and small paper packets that could contain anything.

Niels Orloff knew that exposure to serious collectors requires being in the same room as them. The Stockholm Jewelry Fair was one of the earliest opportunities to put the work in front of people who could evaluate it properly, and let the stones do the talking.

Following in his father's footsteps, Viktor arrived in Chantaburi the way Niels Orloff had arrived in Ratnapura years before: curious, attentive, and willing to spend as many hours as it took to understand what he was looking at. The loupe was the same one. The stones were different. But the process was identical.
